Position Summary

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of New Mexico has an immediate opening in Dr. Karlett Parra’s laboratory for an HS Associate Scientist 1 position: https://hsc.unm.edu/school-of-medicine/biochemistry-molecular-biology/research/parra-lab.html

Duties will include the following:

  • Assisting in collaborations with others in the field as studies are prepared and executed in the lab.
  • Planning and implementing a variety of research protocols and procedures while guiding and mentoring undergraduates in the Vatpase field.
  • Providing basic data analyses, summaries, and interpretations for Cellular functions of vacuolar AtPase proton pumps.

The successful candidate will be expected to make major contributions to current efforts to understand mechanistic aspects of these enzymes in the yeast system.

Conditions of Employment
  • For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out independent research,
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and practice managing a research laboratory.
  • Experience conducting fungi vacuolar ATPase and/or related membrane transporter research
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals in the past two years.
