Northern Cochise Community Hospital Position Description
JOB TITLE: Certified Nursing Assistant
REPORTS TO: Nurse Manager/CNO
Assists professional nursing personnel by performing tasks involving direct and indirect patient care, treatment and maintenance of nursing unit.
Provides patients assistance with Activities in Daily Living (ADL’s).
Feeds patients who are unable to feed themselves.
Prepares, serves, and collects food trays.
Bathes, grooms, shaves, dresses, and/or drapes patients to prepare them for surgery, treatment, or examination.
Transports patients to treatment units, using a wheelchair or stretcher.
Uses all assistive devices for patient and staff safety or other devices as patient may need (i.e. gate belt, walker, cane, hoyer lift, etc.)
Encourages Swing patients to participate in activities or plan of care.
Obtains and accurately documents patient vital signs and weight, and prepares and transports patients for procedures.
Monitors and reportsphysical status of patients including complaints of pain, intake and output status and vital signs.
Documents intake and output of food and/or fluids.
Observes patients and immediately reports any abnormalities to supervisor.
Performs waived lab testing, such as finger sticks and stool testing
Documents all primary and some secondary functions.
Stocks departmental equipment and other supplies.
Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly nurses’ station.
Watches EKG and reads Telemetry
Attaches electrodes (leads) and the telemetry boxes to patient(s)
Monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms on the central monitoring station and informs Registered Nurse(s) of any change in cardiac rhythm
Documents patient(s) cardiac rhythms in-accordance-with (IAW) guidelines established on departmental floor
Maintains patient rooms in a clean and orderly fashion and changes linens.
Maintains clean and dirty utility rooms
Performs assessment for and reports all equipment malfunction.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent. May consider prior work experience in a similar position in lieu of a diploma or GED.
Current, unrestricted, C.N.A license issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
Current CPR or BLS
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic nursingassistant practices, principles of body mechanics, privacy acts, and methods of maintaining a safe, working environment.
Effective verbal communication and writing skills.
Obtains or maintains knowledge to read telemetry: Attends the earliest Basic Cardiac Rhythm course given by Northern Cochise Community Hospital and successfully complete(s)/passes the course with a minimum score of 75%
