Major/Essential Functions
  • Develops and maintains rigorous, collaborative, externally funded program in biomedical informatics or related fields of investigation
  • Contributes to the university's mission through research, teaching and service
  • Develops a process and infrastructure for data request services across the Health Sciences Center
  • Helps train clinicians and other health care professionals in biomedical informatics
  • Participates in department activities
  • Teaches and mentors students, fellows, and other trainees
  • Engages in population health research activities within the state of Texas and nationally
  • Faculty with clinical interests will be eligible for a secondary appointment in another Department in the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in the development and application of informatics tools that integrate with electronic health records, so that these tools may be used for evaluating decision-making as it relates to optimizing health care delivery and assessing preventative care, or
  • Scientific expertise and experience in the use of machine learning and deep learning as applied to understanding and improving health care outcomes
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with clinicians, other biomedical scientists, and with information technology leaders is essential

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D., M.D., M.D.-Ph.D., or equivalent degree
  • Record of accomplishment in population health research, particularly in biomedical informatics or a related field
  • Established national reputation
  • Ten (10) years of cumulative experience at assistant and associate professor levels
