Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Salary Range: $32.13 - $43.17 DOE
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direction of a radiologist perform a variety of ultrasound examinations & procedures with technical expertise.
Perform various duties of a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer including on-call coverage.
Communicates effectively with patients and make every effort to ensure patient comfort when performing procedures.
Follow established exam protocols as per policy and procedure manual. Review physician’s order to determine the purpose & type of examination needed & special considerations involved.
Check patient’s medical history and prior test results. Obtain any additional history from the patient or from other personnel.
Select and set up equipment for the test. Plan the procedure and explain it to the patient. Ensure that appropriate consents are filled out and signed by the patient.
Assist the patient in assuming the best physical position to achieve accurate test results. Complete the scan and make sure that a satisfactory image is produced.
Provide sonogram and oral or written summary of technical findings to physician for use in medical diagnosis. Enter all necessary information in the DR/PACS system to complete the procedure. Maintain a log of tests.
Consistently and accurately charge exams/procedures through the hospital information system.
Maintain supplies par levels, order supplies and work with Materials Management when evaluating new products. Maintain a safe and clean working environment. Complete all necessary paperwork for any equipment malfunctions/problems, incidents or "near misses".
Instruct and/or provide information to patients regarding examination preparation. Assist with exam scheduling and questions from transcriptionists as needed.
Make recommendations to improve service or efficiency of organization (i.e., changes in protocol, patient preparation or scheduling, equipment needs), and incorporate changes into work day.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: Broad knowledge of Ultrasound principles, practices and techniques. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology sufficient to pinpoint area for procedure and identify findings, and basic nursing skills and universal precautions. Knowledge of recordkeeping practices and computer applications software. Completion of a certified ultrasound training program and one (1) year of experience, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.
Possession of current ARDMS certificate & OBMI licensure in Sonography
ARDMS credentials in AB, OB/GYN, RVT
Possession of ARRT certificates in MRI, CT and Mammography.
