Tribal Driving Permit Required: YesDISTINGUSIHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:The Veterans Service Of?cer is responsible for interviewing veterans, spouses and dependents to determine
eligibility for local, county, state, and federal bene?ts, recording information and maintain individual ?les for
veterans regarding all military, medical and service-connected paperwork, and applying for bene?ts for the
veterans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Advise veterans and their families of their rights under military service bene?ts acts and other relevant
legislation.Investigate and conducts interviews with veterans and/or their families to obtain a comprehensive case history
in order that eligibility for aid can be determined.Assist veterans and their families in applying for available federal bene?ts from the United State Department
of Veterans Affairs (VA), by initiating or reopening claims.Complete initial application, or reopen exiting claims for service-connected disabilities or pension.Research medical conditions and obtain necessary medical records and statements from physicians to support
the claims(s).Obtain necessary ?nancial information and corroborating information and documents from various sources.
Keep in contact with VA Of?cials and the veteran and/or veteran Power of Attorney concerning the status of
individual claims.Assist veterans and their families in appealing denied claims.Develop and maintains close liaison with other veteran service agencies.Manage and participate in public information and outreach activities to educate and offer services to veterans,
represent the Veterans and Family Services Of?ce and make presentations to various community groups.
Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:0 Extensive knowledge of laws, rules, regulations which includes federal, state, and local statues relating to
veteran’s affairs and public assistance programs.Knowledge of the organization and procedures of federal and state agencies governing veterans’ affairs.
Skill in counseling and interviewing techniques.Knowledge of basic medical terminology used in legislation, regulations and claims presentation.Extensive knowledge of the needs, problems, and issues of the veteran community.Knowledge of agencies, organizations and community resources related to veterans’ programs.Ability to communicate effectively both orally, and in written form.Ability to interact with of?cials, veterans, dependents, and other fairly and effectively, this position must
maintain a proper working relationship with clients, may who have complex physical and mental health issues
and come from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Associate’ s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration or
a closely related field and a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience or any combination of
education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be a veteran with an honorable discharge or spouse of an honorably discharged veteran.State or National Service Of?ce Accreditation or the ability to obtain accreditation within six (6) month from the
date of hire.Must obtain HIPAA Certification within 90 days of employment.Required to obtain a Tribal Driving permit. Valid state driver’s license with a current proof of driving record for
the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be
submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the
application.Required to pass a background check.Non-Supervisory, Salaried Position
