The Associate Corrections Counselor is responsible for providing direct services to incarcerated inmates and
juvenile residents in adult and juvenile correctional facilities located within the Gila River Indian Community
through assessment of inmates and juvenile residents strengths and weaknesses. Develop and implement case
plans, maintain current case notes, exploration with individual to possible solutions/options. Participates in
weekly staf?ng. The Associate Corrections Counselor will provide individual and group counseling to adult
inmates and juvenile residents in a corrections/detention environment.


0 Develop treatment plans cooperatively with adult inmates and juvenile residents in a correction/detention
environment0 Provide individual crisis intervention counseling, conduct therapeutic individual counseling and group
sessions in a correctional setting.
0 Advocate for and/or encourage adult inmates and juvenile residents in a correction/detention environment topursue alternative Community services for employment, education, training or other applicable services.Screen and identify counseling needs of individual inmates/residents.Complete assessments and develop case plans with individual bases on their identi?ed needs.Provide orientation information to individual after admission into a program.Develop and maintain case plans and maintain records per Department of Rehabilitation and SupervisionPolicy and Procedures. Assist in the review, assessment, and approval of new programming within acorrectional setting.
0 Provide individual and group counseling support to clients, provide crisis intervention counseling, conduct
therapeutic groups with clients.
0 Provide information to clients concerning alcohol and drug abuse and refer clients to other agencies and
services as needed.
0 Coordination of care through local, county, state and federal agencies (cg, Probation, Tribal Social Services,
CPS, hospital/clinic or residential treatment facilities).
0 Complete all necessary paperwork in a timely manner.Provide limited transportation for clients.Attend meetings and trainings.Provide in-service training for department staff as requested.Conduct one-on-one meetings with inmates regarding programming matters and resolve the situation within
the framework of policy.Maintain a caseload of inmates with the primary purpose of resolving daily living issues before they expand
into signi?cant incidents.Make daily rounds through assigned units talking with staff and inmates, ob serving operations and interactions
between staff and inmates in the unit.Maintain safe, secure, and responsible operation of correction facility keys and doors.Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:Knowledgeable in chemical dependency.Knowledge in mental illness.Knowledge of counseling theories and therapeutic techniques.Skills in interviewing, problem solving, assessment, case planning and counseling.Ability to express ideas clearly, orally and in writing.Ability to maintain strict standard of con?dentiality.Ability to function in a stressful corrections environmental with violent inmates and residents.Ability to work with Community agencies to coordinate services for clients and their families.Ability to safely and securely utilize a hand held facility two-way radio, facility keys, facility doors, and all
other safety and security equipment.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Of?cials
and the general public.Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or
closely related ?eld and one (1) year experience in a Human Services ?eld providing social and/or
psychological counseling, OrAssociate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or
closely related ?eld and three (3) years’ experience in a Human Services ?eld providing social and/or
psychological counseling.Experience with Community resources and tribal culture preferred.

Must be Licensed or Certi?ed in substance abuse counseling or closely related license or certi?cation that is
applicable and provide a copy at the time of applying for this position.Required to pass a background check and ?ngerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must continue
to maintain throughout duration of employment. Background checks are required for positions that involve regular
contact with or control over Community Children in accordance with The Indian Child Protection and Family
Violence Prevention Act, 25 U.S.C. Sections 3201 through 3210 and C.F.R. Part 63 and positions that have
regular contact with the Elderly.Must satisfactorily complete annual skill and knowledge testing.Required mandatory reporter pursuant to Title 7, Chapter 2 (7.205). B.Required to attend Title 7 Mandatory Reporting training on a yearly basis.Required to obtain a Tribal Driving permit. Valid state driver’s license with a current proof of driving record for
the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be
submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the
