ABOUT THIS POSITION
This position provides supervision over field operations consisting of the construction, maintenance, and repair of water mains, fire hydrants, service connections, valves, and appurtenances in the water distribution system. The Utility Foreman supervises and directs crew activities to ensure safety and water quality policies are followed. The Utility Foreman represents the City to citizens and contractors when addressing various water distribution issues,coordinates activities with other departments and monitors, evaluates, and trains staff. Utility Foremen need to be proficient with computers and have strong verbal and written communication skills. In most operations, Utility Foremen supervise staff in CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) positions.
The Water Distribution Division is a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation responsible for the maintenance and repair of over 6,900 miles of water distribution main lines and 403,700 water service connections. The division has six water service yards. The division has two preventative maintenance sections, fire hydrants/support services and valves and five water main and services leak/break repair sections.
Utility Foreman in the Wastewater Collection Division oversees the work of staff involved in a sanitary sewer preventive maintenance program providing TV inspection, cleaning, repair, and construction of the wastewater collection system. The Wastewater Collection Foreman represents the City to citizens and contractors when addressing various wastewater issues; coordinates activities with other departments and monitors, evaluates and trains staff. Utility Foremen need to be proficient with computers and have strong verbal and written communication skills. In most operations, Utility Foremen supervise staff in CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) positions.
The Wastewater Collection Division is a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation responsible for the maintenance and repair of over 4,900 miles of sanitary sewer main lines with over sanitary sewer structures and service connections. The division has several maintenance and repair stations, several maintenance and repair sections, a closed circuit television inspection section, and a lift station section.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Must possess a Grade 2 Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection certification at the time of application. Must possess a Grade 3 Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection certification by the end of the twelve-month probationary period.

$19.38 - $28.93 hourly / $40,310- $60,174 annually. Candidates may be hired above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

Four years of experience involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of municipal Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection systems.
One year of lead experience is required at the level of Senior Utility Technician, Utility Specialty Technician, or other equivalent lead experience.
Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
Moving heavy objects (50 pounds or more) over short distances of 20 feet or less.
Involves walking for prolonged periods which may include walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces and working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, noise and dust.
Vacancies likely to occur on second or third shift and weekends.
