Overview

The BUILD Initiative (www.buildinitiative.org) is a national effort that advances state work on behalf of young children (prenatal-five), their families, and communities. BUILD staff partner with early childhood state leaders focused on early learning, health, mental health and nutrition, child welfare, and family support and engagement to create the policies, infrastructure, and cross-sector connections necessary for quality and equity. BUILD provides consultation, planning, and tailored implementation assistance, learning opportunities, resources, and cross-state peer exchanges. These efforts help state leaders improve and expand access to quality and promote equitable outcomes for our youngest children.

The BUILD team is virtual; team members are located across the country. The person filling this position will work from a home office. Team members have opportunities to attend in-person meetings but work primarily via phone and computer.

BUILD is fiscally sponsored by TSNE MissionWorks (www.tsne.org), which provides financial and grants management, human resources, legal, and other supports.



Responsibilities

This position is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a highly effective team to bring about positive change for young children and families, to learn about all aspects of the early childhood field, and to work at the forefront of an exciting movement to promote early childhood systems building. This position is part of the NCIT Capacity-Building Hub which is dedicated to supporting state and community leaders working to improve outcomes for infants and toddlers and pregnant and parenting families.

Vision and Leadership

  • Support the NCIT Hub Director to establish, execute and meet strategic organizational objectives;
  • Exemplify and extol BUILD's values and bring to the NCIT Hub Team vision and leadership on racial equity and equity more generally;
  • Advise the Hub Director on day-to-day-operations, analysis and critical issues and manage several aspects of the Hub;
  • Represent the NCIT Hub externally, as necessary, at national or state-specific meetings, networking events, conferences and seminars;
  • Managing Teams and Supporting Capacity Building and Professional Development

Equity

  • Develop and execute the NCIT Capacity-Building Hub's Prenatal-to-age-Three Equity Plan, which will support state and community leaders' and the Hub Support Leads' efforts to advance toward the goal of each and every child, regardless of race, neighborhood, or family income, having equitable opportunities to achieve positive education and health outcomes, e.g. reduction in disparities in low birth weight, access to nutrition, access to high quality infant and toddler child care. This work will build on BUILD's existing work on equity and create specific strategies related to the states and communities working on PN-3.
  • Ensure that all of the NCIT Hub's activities and resources are infused with an equity perspective including the annual grantee meeting, the webinars and learning communities, and the websites and online community forums.
  • Identify additional leaders and experts who can support equity work in the PN-3 space.

NCIT Hub Support Leads

  • Manage the staff, contractors, and consultants who serve as Hub Support Leads to the state and community Pritzker Children's Initiative grantees.
  • Facilitate bi-weekly calls of the Leads to share information, jointly problem solve, and continuously improve the Hub's capacity-building efforts.
  • Organize and oversee a learning community of the Hub Support Leads to bolster their efforts and ensure that they are sharing knowledge and skills with each other.


Fellowship

  • Supervise the Fellowship Specialist.
  • Ensure that the NCIT Fellowship builds on the most promising strategies and effective resource materials already developed by the BUILD Initiative.

In addition, the Assistant Director will design, coordinate and participate in national and topical webinars and Communities of Practice.

 

 

Qualifications

We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

  • Graduate degree in Early Childhood, Human Development, health and/or educational disparities, or relevant discipline.
  • Proven leadership skills in managing teams, with at least three years of experience in a leadership position within an organization.
  • Strong supervisory skills especially in supervising remote staff
  • Proficiency in training, facilitation, and providing technical assistance for equity interventions at the state and local levels
  • Vision and experience leading change efforts and/or technical assistance efforts related to early childhood and related to advancing equitable outcomes.
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment especially at a national level
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, be detailed-oriented with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to delegate tasks
  • Familiarity with the early childhood sector
  • Creative problem solver
  • Experience working with and supporting diverse public and private sector leaders
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, OneDrive and Office 365 a plus
