Job Description: Essential Position Functions

The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and other key duties that may be required.   • Reports consistently for work as scheduled
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards
  • Supports Discovery Canyon Campus High School with social emotional needs with students grades 9-12
  • Support PLC: PLC's are an essential part of intervention requiring consultation, training, and facilitation.

  • Tracking Data: School wide data is utilized to determine students in need of intervention as Well as students who are responding to intervention.

  • Research: Research is an integral part of the job(eg researching best practices, observing other schools intervention programs, and attending relevant conferences)

  • Support Intervention Staff: Intervention is not officially a department, however the coordinator performs similar duties to running a department and serves as the DC.

  • Shared Leadership Team : Counselor will facilitate a team of stakeholders to include representation from administration, department leaders, dean, staff, building coordinators, and parent leadership that will meet at least quarterly to identify, discuss, and plan for areas iil need of intervention.

  • Work with Students: Counselor will have an avenue to work with a students in order to evaluate them in terms of their place in the MTSS process in academic and behavioral interventions

  • 504 Plans: Counselor will facilitate all 504 meetings and will be responsible for writing all plans and supporting the students on those plan

  • MTSS : Will serve as team lead for MTSS and will organize meetings, write plans and will oversee the data and reviews of these plans.

  • MTSS Leader: Counselor will oversee the MTSS program and will represent the school in district and building management of the program.

  • Program Coordination: Counselor will assist and support in the coordination and facilitation of the intervention programming such as, the math tutoring center, After School Work Group, Guided Study Halls, and Instructional Coaching.

  • Student Support Team: Lead the team of counselors, dean, and admin in discussing , identifying, and planning for students in need of intervention through bi-weekly meetings.

  • Guided Study Hall & Intervention Contracts-Counselor will train and oversee the Intervention Contract system through Guided Study Hall for freshmen in need of intervention.

  • ACT as lead counselor for students with 504 plans.

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Teacher: Counselor:

  • Valid Colorado Department of Education Special Services Provider License
  • Demonstrated expertise in subject area
  • Excellent organizational and academic skills
  • Effective student management skills
  • Student centered; Demonstrated success in working with students

  • Excellent collaborative/teaming skills
  • Energetic, creative, innovative, flexible
  • Ability to use data/technology to improve instruction and learning, and to interpret test data
  • Working knowledge of and success in applying state standards in subject area

  • Qualified per Colorado Department of Education and per district requirements, if applicable

Salary/Pay: Salary is dependent on a review of your experience and education.

Additional Information:

New Applicants: Please note that if you are hired by District 20, fingerprinting is required. You will be responsible for the fingerprinting charge at the Colorado Springs Police Department as well as for the FBI charge.

All special education positions require the ability to safely lift 50 pounds each in a two person lift.

Primary consideration will be given to transfer requests from schools that need to reduce staff.
